Gateshead

Membership

Members with a keen interest in their chosen subject lead/organise their Group. Groups cover indoor and outdoor interests, cultural and otherwise, while social events also feature in the calendar.

There are 11 groups at the present time and if a topic you would like to see is not covered, then our Committee can help you start a new group.

The Interest Groups are self financing. Some groups meet in member's homes, in which case a small fee is charged for refreshments. Other Groups who use an external venue will charge £2 towards room hire.

Members meet on the third Monday of each month from 1.30 – 3.30 pm in Denewell Avenue UR church, Denewell Avenue, Low Fell, Gateshead NE9 5HD. Sometimes there are as many as 45 members who come along to this meeting. Talks are presented on a wide range of topics, given by speakers from the North East. Refreshments provided - £2 per person.

On the first Wednesday of each month, we hold a coffee morning in the Denewell Avenue centre from 10.00 - 11.00 am which is well attended.

At each meeting, besides the opportunity to meet existing friends and make new ones, you will be kept abreast of what's going on. All for the amazing cost of £2.00 each per meeting to cover room hire, speaker and refreshments.

Why not come along as a visitor to the coffee morning or monthly main meeting if you are interested in joining Gateshead u3a - YOU will be very welcome. Visitors can attend two meetings and coffee mornings, then we would ask you to join. Similarly, you can try a group (with the exception of the Ambling and Walking groups). You must, for insurance purposes, be a member of Gateshead u3a before you can join the Ambling or Walking groups.

How can you join
The annual subscription is £18 renewable each April (£9.00 if you join after October). However you are welcome to try before you buy and join us at a couple of monthly meetings or coffee mornings at £2 each meeting for refreshments.

We look forward to hearing from you.

You can contribute to the u3a at any level. Everyone is a volunteer. All help is welcome, whether helping with refreshments, putting out tables and chairs for the meetings, organising a group or standing for election as a Committee Member at the Annual General meeting.
